Brilliant Idea

Looking for a crash course in entrepreneurship? We’ve got just the thing for you! Join us for a multi-day workshop series led by experienced entrepreneurs and learn how to identify and solve a problem experienced by an industry partner.

A program designed to help you become more familiar with entrepreneurial concepts while working on a solution to a real-world problem. This event is a great way to network with industry professionals and students from across Ontario.

You will be taught key entrepreneurial concepts (such as design thinking, customer validation and pitching skills) by seasoned entrepreneurs and subject matter experts. By the end of the program you will have the knowledge and tools to present a solution to a real-world problem being experienced by our industry partner.

Every student who attends and participates in Brilliant Idea will receive $525.

Note: Students who have previously participated in an “Experience Ventures” opportunity (such as a project-based WIL opportunity, or the Catalyst Challenge) are not eligible for the $500 payment from this event.

You should know:

  • A three day work shop series taking place during the winter semester (February 15, 17, and 24). Sessions start at 10 am each day.

  • Every student to participate in all of the sessions will receive $525 for participating (subject to eligibility).

  • You do not need to have a pre-existing team or idea to attend.

  • All sessions will be facilitated using Zoom. An invite link will be sent out prior to the first session.

What problem will we be asked to solve?

It’s a secret! What we can tell you is the problem comes from our industry partner. Details about our industry partner will be announced soon!

Is this event for me?

If you are curious about entrepreneurship then yes it is! Whether you are already an entrepreneur or new to the world of startups, this event will introduce you to the process of developing and testing an idea.

Do I need to have a business background?

No, you do not need a business background. The program is open to students from all faculties.

Do I have to participate in all days?

Yes, it is mandatory to participate during all days to be eligible for the $525 payment.

Who can participate?

This event is open to any post-secondary student in Canada (undergraduate and graduate). Students who have previously participated in an “Experience Ventures” opportunity (such as a project-based WIL opportunity, or the Catalyst Challenge) are not eligible for the $525 payment from this event.

Do I need a team?

No, anyone can participate with or without a pre-established team! Pre-established teams may have other students added to their team at the start of the event. Those who are applying individually will be assigned a team on the first day of the event.

Do I need an idea to attend?

No, you do not need an idea to participate. If you do not have one in mind an idea will be provided to you.
